Original UK Twilight Cover

When Twilight was first published here in the UK (early 2006), it had a different cover to the US one. It's really difficult to get hold of now, and quite expensive. Here are scans of the front and back of the book:

I'm not a fan of this cover... it's just weird. I don't like the art, title font or the colours. It says nothing about the plot, and just isn't very interesting. I'm glad they decided to reprint with the apple cover, which is the only version available now. What do you think?

I think it's good that it's difficult to get a hold of; it's rather disturbing! Bella looks anorexic and like she should be in a badly-animated film. It also gives me the impression that she's a ghost or something!

I like the lockers, but that's about it.

Wow, that's really interesting. I wonder if the cover designer had read the book? Doesn't have the right feel at all. Weird color pallet.

I think that it is very ugly.

It looks very Coraline-ish or Neil Gaiman-ish. Strange. I still don't get why there are different covers for US/Canada/UK/Australia!

That cover is so weird! The girl looks like she's made of wax! I'm so glad they changed it to the apple.

That cover looks really weird. I wouldn't buy it.

I remember this cover. I don't think the girl looks anything like I'd ever picture Bella! The apple cover is miles better, I think.

haha it's so ugly, and weird. I'm happy they changed it, because I wouldn't have bought the book if the cover looked like that..

That's the cover i have it in in hard back, and am now wondering if it's actually worth any money seeing as its so hard to get hold of, not that i;d ever sell it, it's my baby! It does look odd though next to the other three though.

Weird!

It looks akward, imagine the other three!!! No apple, flower, ribbon, or chess piece! A frien of mine has it; I had never seen it though.

I loved this cover, it is moody, evocative and romantic and poignant, it's actually the reason i bought the book in the first place, back in 2005.

Yes, I've got that one. I covet it; but aia don't really care about how much it's worth, as I'd never sell it. I wish I had the New Moon edition too - it's on her website. Guess I'll have to scour a lot of second-hand bookshops...

I read Twilight when I was in Australia last year. It was a copy with the original cover.

Personally I hate the Apple cover along with the covers of the sequels. They're generic and cold and have no allusions to the story or atmosphere. They fit right into the current trend of putting boring, uninspired photographic and vector covers on books. Whatever happened to traditional work?

I prefer the original cover. It took work and is far more striking. It's dreamy and murky, much like the warm, slightly macabre, loved up feeling in the book and the dark rainy feel of Seattle. Bella looks far warmer, and more convincing as a character.

Twilight is set in Washington...

Who is the artist for this cover?

This is the twilight that i bought - i believe its first edition and is autographed by SM (before she became huge in uk/ireland) supposedly there was NM version that was meant to come out - but it doesn't seem to have been printed.

Hi Mark, If you still have your copy of the 1st edition of the Twilight book I am very interested. Is it soft or hard cover? Please email me at lorenazanner@gmail.com and let me know what you want for it. Regards, Lorena.

I think it is so bizarre. Like maybe somewhat of a ghost who is unsure of what path to take? I think it's kind of cool because of how weird it is. Haha, but that's just me. The apple cover is a lot better. This UK cover is so hard to take your eyes off of though.
