Soundtrack Saturday: #1

Soundtrack Saturday idea from Adele at Persnickety Snark.

I love books, and I love music, so I'm always relating one to the other. Sometimes I find a song that will perfectly describe a book: a line, a chapter, a particular scene or the book as a whole. I've occasionally made my own book playlists, and I like to find out what authors listen to when they write.

This week, I read Bloom by Elizabeth Scott. The main character, Lauren, finds it difficult to be herself around certain people, and seems to be tiptoeing through life by doing what she thinks other people would want her to do. A song immediately sprang to mind whilst I was reading, and that song was The Middle by Jimmy Eat World. It's one of my favourite songs to live by, and comes from my favourite band. These are the lyrics that I imagine made Lauren start living her life a different way, and start doing things for herself:

Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or
looked down on.

Live right now.
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough for someone else.

Just do your best, do everything you can.
And don't you worry what the bitter hearts are gonna say.

It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).

OHHH I love this song. I've never read Bloom, but it does sound like a perfect song for the book. I love coming up with songs that remind me of a book or listening to other people's songs for books. It's great because it combines my two loves!

Okay, I LOVE The Middle by Jimmy Eat World. I am now officially bobbing my head up and down to it in my head. No... wait... I'm gonna turn it up on iTunes now. Yay!

I hope you enjoy Becoming Chloe, because I really did. :)
