US Vs. UK: Just Listen Covers

US // UK

It's been a while since I US/UK'd a Sarah Dessen titles, and seeing as the covers are always so drastically different, I thought it was time I featured another one of her books.

Although I do like both covers, I think my overall favourite is the UK one. I find it more eye-catching, and I love the little drawings that represent different aspects of the story (guitar etc...). I'm also not keen on covers that have the model's head missing, as they often look off. Does anyone know why they insist on doing that so much?

Ooh, I've actually just made a post about the gorgeous new Along for the Ride UK cover! I generally prefer the US Dessen covers since they seem more appropriate to me, but in the case of Just Listen, I'm not too impressed by either. I still vote for the US one though! But the new UK cover of Along for the Ride is the best UK Dessen cover imho!!

I like the UK cover artisticly, but I think the US cover would probably be more likely to make me buy the book.

Could any other author have such beautiful covers? I love all of hers, US and UK, though they are very different. The UK cover made me buy my first Dessen book, so I'll go with that.

Oh and I think they cut off the heads so much so that the reader can 'use their imagination' - it would be stupid to lose readers just because they don't like the look of a cover model. I agree this is stupid though, because plenty of books have models that look nothing like the characters and it's easy enough to ignore.

Yes, I agree with H about why body parts are often used instead of models' faces. Remember the Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr cover, though? I thought the model was perfect.

Anyway, I prefer the UK covers, no question about that! The UK books feel gorgeous too.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that I don't particularly care for the UK covers. That goes for all the Sarah Dessen books. Well there are a couple I like ok but I think the US ones are better suited to the books and they really grab my attention more.Plus the US covers just look more....real.

UK! It's gorgeous. I agree with Bookalicious about "Along for the Ride" that UK cover is even better!

I completely agree with Briana ^up there^. I don't like any of the UK covers for all the Sarah Dessen books.

But I think my opinion is a little biased because I grew up with only US covers surrounding me. I just find them more attractive an eye-catching I guess...of course, this is no offense for any UK book-cover lovers or UK peeps! We luv ya guys!

I like the US better

I read once why they cut off the models heads, something about imagining your self as the main character (marketing tools, ahhhh). I like the UK version too.

UK cover for sure. I still love the bright US one though.

I love all the little details that are on the UK cover, but the girl's face kind of freaks me out a little. Overall, I prefer the US cover. :)

I prefer the US version. I pretty much dislike all the UK versions of Sarah Dessen covers I've seen. They're off putting, imo.

I prefer the US version. I saw another UK cover here, and I'm just not a fan of that style. To me, they look like something from the 1970s that you'd find in a thrift store. (If the books take place back then, fine... but I'm not sure that they do.)

I prefer the US covers - but I like the UK ones too.

I know the UK covers are unique and distinctive, but I don't really like the look of them. My vote's with the US one this time, despite the cut-off head.

I'm so for US on this one!! Her books are way too pink-y to be black.

UK! Most of the UK Sarah Dessen covers are kinda weird, but I actually like this one.

I think I'm going to have to go with the US cover. I like that they don't put the model's head because I hate to know how the author sees the character. I love imagining how they look =)But I must say, the UK one is sooo different and it IS eyecatching.

I'm partial to the U.S. covers. I like the iPod there and the simplicity of the cover. I get over-stimulated looking at the U.K. cover.

But I am so glad I now know why they cut model's heads off now -- the marketing aspect makes sense!

Although I have the UK cover, my only Dessen title, I prefer the US cover. I just don't like the design of the UK cover and I'd never have icked it up if it wasn't for a recommendation.
