US Vs. UK: Mockingjay Covers

US // UK

I love how the US and UK both have different brands for the Hunger Games trilogy, with a style that has continued throughout the series. I'm personally more of a fan of the US covers, though I do get both those and the UK releases. I don't know why... I just like to see both on my shelf. It must be because I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. *shrug*

The orange on the UK cover is growing on me more every time I look at it, and I adore the simplicity of the US image. It's so clean and stylistic, and exactly what I love a book to look like. The Hunger Games series is nothing if not eye-catching, and I'm so glad it finally seems to be taking off in the UK. In a big way, it seems. There's a worldwide embargo!

Anyway, which cover do you prefer? And which team are you on? TEAM GALE!! Ahem. Can you tell I'm excited by this UK cover announcement? ;)

To be honest, I don't like either and have never really liked any of the covers. To be really shallow, they are the reason I didn't read THG for ages in the first place.

Team Gale FTW

Must say, while neither are my favorite, I still prefer the US in this one.

I really like both of them. Can't decide. I think I need to read this series. It sounds amazing.

TEAM GALE all the way!! :) And I'm definitely much more a fan of the US covers. I don't really like the UK one at all.

I'd say the US one. The UK one is wwwaaaaaaayyyyyyy to busy!

I like the UK versions of the series (probably b/c they are the ones I won and fell in love with while reading.) Another blogger has a Hunger Games cover comparison post and I love the ones in Germany and Romania. makes our look a bit bland, although they are good branding.

Anddddddddddddd... Team Gale. Obviously :)

I like the US wayyyyy better!

I just wrote this same (almost) post, but it'll publish tomorrow. (I do a comparison with the whole series.) I'm trying to get ahead of myself--to no avail. I'm a little torn, but think that I prefer the US Mockingjay, simply because it seems to imply a happy ending.

For once I actually like the US version.

Adele - it's interesting to hear that you've never really liked any of the covers. I didn't know that.

Nomes - Thanks for the link. Shall check it out.

Mrs. DeRaps - Keep your fingers crossed for that happy ending!

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the UK one either. I LOVE the color of the US one. But I love blue! Anything Blue!

But seeing the UK covers of the HG and CF, I can see it fits well.

Jenny, I love your UK/US cover memes! I look forward to them all the time!

The US cover already matches the first two that I have. :-)

I like the simple elegance of the U.S. cover. that grabs my attention. I am a Team Peeta all the way!

I rarely say this in these posts but US all the way baby!

I have to go with the US cover for this one. It has a softer look.

I totally like the U.S cover because it just seems so much more clean cut and not as all over the place. And also, TEAM GALE ALL THE WAY!!!! I really hope Katniss end up with him!

I love the US covers, though I'm Team Peeta all the way!

I actually really like the UK one, it's very bright compared to the other two so far. I'm so glad Australia gets the same covers as the UK so that my preordered copy of Mockingjay from the bookdepository will look the same as the others on my shelf (I hate not having a matching set of covers, so much so that I would pay however much more to buy the right ones!)
And....I'm Team Peeta! I really don't understand the Gale craze much. I just don't see enough of him in the novels to really fall for him (not that he doesn't seem like a nice guy and all...)

I love the UK cover. The US cover makes me feel meh about it...weird, I know!

But so pretty and shiny. I was jumping 'round the house when the email came through last night with the UK cover. NOMS!

I prefer the US one, the UK one is a little too busy for my liking.

I love the US cover. It makes me think that somehow we will get a happy ending out of all that has happened. I think I just about feel hatred for the UK cover. It's harsh and ugly, something Collin's writing is not and it has a Meyer blurb on it and well...I'll just stop now.

TEAM PEETA!

I like the US covers better. The UK ones are too busy. I like the simplicity of the US ones.

I instantly love the UK cover, but you are right about the US cover. Very simple. Very symbolic. I might have to treat myself to the US version... maybe...

hmmm... Team Gale or Team Peeta... I don't think Katniss should have either. She doesn't deserve them. Plus, with the way the series is going, I fear the worse for these three (hence me trying [and failing] to keep my distance with this love triangle)...

US, the UK one scares me. x

I think the UK covers convey more of the action side of the story and (at least in terms of Mockingjay) might appeal more to young male readers, but that being said, I prefer the symbolism and style of the US covers.
And definitely Team Gale, although somehow I doubt he's going to win her in the end. Which breaks my heart. :-(

Worldwide embargo! Cool! I like both of these covers ut I especially like the orangeness of the UK one.

Andrea said...

US definitely. It seems more hopeful.

jenny wilson said...

I must say US, i think they do better covers than we do in the uk

Oh wow. I like how simple the US version is, but they UK version is definitely out there. It would totally grab my attention at a book store if I didn't know what the book was. But I like to US version a bit more.

thebookfairyhaven said...

Surprisingly enough, I love the UK version. I haven't read any of the books in the series yet, but if the books had to be placed in front of me, I'd probably pick the UK version up first. Guess I'm just attracted to the bright orange.

Carla said...

I have to say UK and stick with my roots. TEAM GALE FTW or what?! BRAP

A.J. said...

Orange is my favorite color, but I'm gonna have to agree with the ones that said that the UK cover is way too busy. The US cover doesn't blow me away; however, I like it better than the UK version. ;p

Right now, I'm Team Peeta. :3

Cat @ Beyond Books said...

I much prefer the blue cover. The orange one is way too... ORANGE IN YOUR FACE!

I have not read this series yet as I don't think I would like it, but I enjoy seeing how excited everyone gets about the books. ;)

I love the US cover here :) Blue is my favourite colour and I just love this calm peaceful shade that goes so well with the bird flying free. My friends who have actually read these books says it looks a lot more hopeful then the first two covers, from the colour to the free bird to the broken circle in the background :).

I love the UK cover! The US one is simple, yes, to the point that it's almost bland. It wouldn't stand out on a shelf. The orange and reds in the UK one-wow, the girl who was on fire personified in a book cover! Love it.

prophecygirl said...

Kaya - I never thought of it like that. "The girl who was on fire personified in a book cover" << great way of looking at it!

Bookworm said...

Definitely US! The UK cover is too messy and distracting...and I love the US' cool blue and silvery tones!

Glen Akin said...

UK cover is better this time around. Too much happening on the US cover, plus the superimposed boy and girl shadows on the letters - the shouldn't have done that with "Mockingjay". They should have left it at "The Hunger Games".

team peeta all the way, he is soooooo sweet i like both covers really but the uk one stands out the most and i think that's important because it makes people acknowledge that the book is there rather than people just looking past pale book covers

. . .

Team Peeta <3

UK FTW! Although my fav colour is blue, I find the US's rather boring, the UK's is definately more eye-catching! =)

Anonymous said...

oh, and Team Gale!! =P

Anonymous said...

Plus, the US's gives the impression that the book will be peaceful... not fitting at all

I actually like the US covers for this series. I think I like the symbolism and the simplicity they have. They're very striking to me. I don't really like covers that are super busy, and the UK covers definitely are.

I love the US cover, mostly because that's the way I'm used to seeing them...

*coughs* Team Peeta. After reading Mockingjay, I will never think of Gale the same way again.
