US Vs. UK: The Dark and Hollow Places Covers

US // UK

I don't know about you guys, but I love the US covers for all the books in this series. There's so unsettling about them - I think it's the grime and haunting eyes of the models. If you stare at them for a while, they get kind of creepy. I really like the title font used too, simple but cool.

The UK covers are interesting, because they've gone for a more symbolic approach. This one screams 'tangled romance' to me, though I do like the suggestion of blood in the background, and the grey gives it that bleak feeling you'd expect.

When it comes down to it, I'll always choose the US covers for this series. The UK ones aren't bad at all, they just don't stand out to me as much. What do you think?

The US covers are just so haunting! I loved the first, hardcover version for Forest of Hands and Teeth.

As for the UK - the cover reminds me of the one for 'Forbidden'. The same tangled spiky heart theme. Dark, but not as original or creepy as the US covers feel.

I love the US ones too - but out of all the UK ones - this one is my fave. the first two do nothing for me. in fact, I own them both and I still cant figure out what that red thing on the forst is? Or what its really supposed to mean/symbolise...

It's sad, but I just see 'Carrie Ryan' and go 'awesome' at this point! Is this what they mean by author brand...

I liked the original US HC cover for The Forest of Hands and Teeth. But I do like the US cover for book 3 better than book 2. And all of them I prefer over the UK covers.

The UK version is pretty cool - but the US cover definitely sticks out more (though for some reason, I thought she was lying in a bathtub and looking up...).

I think the UK version has its creepy quality too - a barbed heart PLUS some vague blood stains around? *shivers*

I think I might be the only one who likes the UK covers best! I just don't really love real photos of people as book covers, I prefer symbolic kind of things or other artwork. I think within a few years photos look old and dated. Just my opinion. I've got the Aussie editions of The Forest of Hands and Teeth and The Dead Tossed Waves which are different from both the UK and US covers so I don't know yet what book 3 will look like over here. But if it's anything like the UK one I'll be happy!

I have to go for the UK one this time - the US one is way too creepy for my tastes *shivers*.

I prefer the UK covers by far. Just more elegant, and I kind of dislike the typeface used for the US ones. However, the original cover for the US Forest of Hands and Teeth is gorge - the one with the girl in profile.

Nomes - that's a leaf on the cover of the UK Forest of Hands and Teeth. ;)

I really love the UK covers. In fact, it was the cover of TFOHAT that first made me pick it up. I can't wait until I have all three as I think that the barbed wire heart fits in just perfectly with the starkness of the first two.

The UK covers for her books are just like WOAH. Seriously, I would choose them every single time!

I like both, but the US cover just about pips it because the model is really contemporary looking, and so it makes me relate the scare factor to the here and now. It makes it feel more real somehow.

I also really like the US covers, especially for this series. This must be the third book already! I really should get reading, I haven't even read the second one yet.

hmm, i like both but I prefer the uk one. The barbed wire heart is strikingly similar to the one on the cover of Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma though.
