Review: Losing It by Cora Carmack
Publisher: Ebury Press
Released: March 28th, 2013
Love. Romance. Sex. There's a first time for everything... As far as Bliss Edwards can tell, she's the last virgin standing, certainly amongst her friends. And she's determined to deal with the 'problem' as quickly and simply as possible. But her plan for a no-strings one night stand turns out to be anything but simple. Especially when she arrives for her first class and recognises her hot new British professor. She'd left him naked in her bed just 8 hours earlier...
I've read a good handful of New Adult titles this year, some I loved and some I didn't. If I'm honest, I had low expectations for Losing It and didn't think I'd like it at all - the cover didn't really help with that, I'll admit. But wow did I like it! I almost read it in one sitting and if it wasn't for needing sleep and having to go to work then I would have done. It's a ridiculously addictive book! I should also mention that there's a bit of sexually explicit content, but not much. It's one for those older teen/young adult readers out there.
Bliss meets Garrick in a bar and *almost* sleeps with him. Then the next day who does she find out is her new theatre teacher? Yep, you guessed it: Garrick. Garrick who, by the way, is SO HOT. And British. And blonde. Excuse me while I swoon. I know this part of the book is kind of predictable, but the rest isn't. Yes it's cheesy in parts and the writing isn't the best I've ever read, but I loved it so much. Seriously. It's one of my favourite reads of 2013 so far, along with Easy by Tammara Webber. This New Adult malarky is great when there are good books to be found!
Bliss did get on my nerves a bit to start with, especially when she bolts the first night she meets Garrick, leaving him with the worst explanation ever. Still, she redeems herself by the end and I actually grew to really like her. And Garrick... well... I never disliked him. *whistles* He's a genuine nice guy who cares for Bliss and puts her feelings ahead of his. Definitely one of my top New Adult book guys!
Losing It won't change your life, it also probably won't make any top-ten-books-ever lists, but it's such a fun, enjoyable read that it's all I've thought about for two days and I really can't wait to read more by Cora Carmack. Faking It is published this month and I'll be getting it for sure. The New Adult genre might not be for everyone, but I think it's safe to say it's for me. I read to be entertained and to enjoy a good story, and that's exactly what I got from Losing It. Brilliant!
