Amazon summary:

Awful Vera Bogg is Patsy's new best friend! Penelope is determined to win Patsy back. When the girls are chosen to paint a mural at Portwaller's Home for the Aged, it's Penelope's chance to show what a great friend (and talented artist) she is. But then a mean old lady called Nila Wister steals Penelope's paintbrushes, bullies her for treats and curses her with terrible Bad Luck! And, sure enough, no one can agree about the mural, Penelope's in trouble at school (again!), and Vera and Patsy are closer than ever. Can Penelope find a way to win her Good Luck and her best friend back once and for all?

Penelope Crumb Finds Her Lucky Stars is the third book in the Penelope Crumb series and is just as good as the last! This time Penelope tries to get her best friend back with the help of some good luck, a mural and a very old friend. Can she do it, or will she lose Patsy Cline to Vera Bogg forever?

These books are great fun for middle grade readers, thanks to a huge amount of humour, fantastic illustrations and numerous important life lessons learnt by Penelope. She's a wacky character that people will identify with, especially because she goes through the same friendship dramas that are rife in real-life schools.

Penelope learns a lot in this book, mostly that old people were once young people and that working as a team really is the best way to get a job done. A bit strange and a bit unusual, she's the perfect character to entice younger readers and get them reading. Of course, Charlie Alder's illustrations help too. Here's to more Penelope and her favourite big nose!
