Review: There's a Dinosaur in My Bathtub by Catalina Echeverri
Publisher: Bloomsbury Children's Books
Format: Large paperback
Released: February 13th, 2014
Amelia has a dinosaur in her bathtub; a rather LARGE dinosaur. His name is Pierre, and he's from France. Amelia and Pierre have lots of fun adventures together, like travelling to the moon, eating giant ice creams and dancing upside-down.
There's a Dinosaur in My Bathtub is about a little girl and her friend Pierre, who just so happens to be a big green French dinosaur with a moustache and a striped top. I think that's all you really need to know, don't you? I laughed out loud upon first seeing Pierre - hehe!
This book is written and illustrated by Catalina Echeverri, and she's very good at both. I've noticed picture books are usually written by one person and illustrated by another, so I was surprised to see that this book has broken that mould, just like Tom McLaughlin's The Story Machine.
My favourite part of the book is when you get to see just how good Pierre is at hiding from Amelia's family. It's quite surreal to see a huge French dinosaur pretend to be a lamp or a topiary masterpiece. Of course, his favourite home is in the bathtub, and how can blame him?! This is an enjoyable tale of friendship and a visual treat too - enjoy!
