Amazon summary:

Joe is just an ordinary boy until he makes a wish on a spooky Egyptian amulet...Now he's the Protector of Undead Pets! This is the eighth book in the spooky but sweet series, and it tells the story of Frankfurter, a sausage dog who needs Joe's help before he can pass over. Moments before his encounter with a revolving door, Frankie overheard two men plotting to burgle the hotel that is run by his owner. Frankie needs Joe's help to stop the robbery and bring the criminals to justice. The books in the Undead Pets series are full of animal zombies and pets with one last thing to do before they pass to the other side!

Hour of the Doomed Dog is the latest book in Sam Hay's fantastic Undead Pets series. It's all about Frankie the sausage dog who meets a grisly end at the hands of a revolving door, while trying to stop two robbers. Frankie's mission isn't finished, which is why he goes to Joe, the Protector of Undead Pets.

Hour of the Doomed Dog is just as good as the previous Undead Pets book I read (Gasp of the Ghoulish Guinea Pig), and kept me entertained all the way through. Frankie is an eager little thing, intent on helping whoever he can before he passes on. I really liked him and it's such a shame he got squished in the dangerous doors!

I love the premise for this series, especially the part where each undead pet has a purpose and a task to fulfil before they can leave Earth and be at peace. It's a great idea for a book series and I'm honestly surprised by how much I'm enjoying these titles - I thought I'd like them but I didn't think I'd like them this much!

I'm really looking forward to going back and catching up with the rest of the Undead Pets series, and of course I'm also eagerly awaiting more new books. I wonder which pets Sam Hay will choose to focus on next? Maybe a reptile of some sort? We'll have to wait and find out! In the meantime, do buy these existing Undead Pets books for your younger readers - I'm sure they'll love them as much as I do!
