The Mortal Instruments Wrap Up Tour: Cassandra Clare Talks The Bane Chronicles + US Giveaway!

Okay, so, that's it guys. The Mortal Instruments is done. Finished. City of Heavenly Fire is now out in the wild in the UK, the US and a whole host of other places, and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling all kinds of emotions (mostly sad). Clary, Jace, Alec, Izzy and Simon have had to say goodbye to us (*sniffle*), but don't worry too much - Cassie is working on more series set within the Shadowhunter world.

To celebrate the end of this momentous YA series, Cassie is stopping by a handful of blogs to talk about all the Mortal Instruments books from City of Bones right through to The Bane Chronicles. My stop today is the final stop on Cassie's virtual tour, and she's talking about The Bane Chronicles.

I'd just like to say  a big thank you to Cassie for being on my blog today and over the years, for answering my questions and for writing one of my all-time favourite series. *high five*

Now! Without further ado, here's Cassie to tell us all a little bit more about Magnus and The Bane Chronicles. Hope you fellow Shadowhunters enjoy it, and don't forget to enter the fantastic US giveaway below!

The Bane Chronicles
Wondrous Reads: Hi Cassie! What made you decide to focus solely on Magnus and create The Bane Chronicles?

Cassie Clare: I was on a writing retreat with Maureen Johnson, Sarah Rees Brennan and Robin Wasserman friends. They were actually helping me with the edits on Clockwork Princess when we randomly fell into speculating about Magnus’s past, making up wild adventures he had. It prompted lots of laughter, and we realized that we ought to release those tales into the world. The first one we came up with was the one where Magnus is trying to decide what to get Alec for his birthday. Maureen’s imitation of the tentacle demon was a feature of our trip. She followed us all around constantly saying “What about a scented candle?”

WR: Did you have any say in their cover design and how, when all ten installments are together, they make up one huge image of Magnus?

CC: We had a say in picking the cover model, and if I may say so, he’s pretty hot! But we didn’t have a say in the design. We like it though!

WR: Do you have a favorite novella from The Bane Chronicles? If so, which one?

CC: I would have a really hard time picking. It might be The Midnight Heir because we get to see characters from The Last Hours in it.

WR: Are there any plans for more Chronicles from a different character's perspective?

CC: Not from a different character’s perspective, no. We’d really like to do a series that centers around a specific place. Tales from the London Institute, for instance, or Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. Something that could pick up on different characters across a stretch of time.
