Review: Sideswiped by Lia Riley
Released: October 7th, 2014
Talia and Bran broke all the rules and navigated dark and stormy emotional waters to be together and now that they finally seem to have found their way back to each other, the winds of change threaten to blow their love off course yet again...
I loved the first Off the Map book, Upside Down, when I read it last year, so I was excited to return to Talia and Bran's story in Sideswiped. While I didn't like it quite as much and it took me a little longer to get into, I did end up really enjoying it and the twists and turns their relationship takes. Nothing is easy for these two, in both love and life, and Lia Riley does a great job of portraying a realistic relationship that has its ups and downs.
Sideswiped picks up where Upside Down left off, and gets straight back into the story. Talia and Bran are moving forward in their own ways, with different jobs and opportunities arising, and it's all about how they navigate the changes and how they affect their already strong feelings for each other. I'm a big fan of the New Adult genre, but I'll be the first to admit that sometimes it's just not realistic at all. That definitely isn't the case here and, occasionally, things get a bit *too* real!
Bran is an interesting character; he has a lot to give but also a tendency to almost ruin things by not thinking them through properly. Talia is quite similar, and together they make a great couple but one that is very much going in two different directions. They're both headstrong and independent, which is good but also causes problems along the way. I like them both, though, and I can't wait to see what happens next for them.
Sideswiped is a bit too long for my liking but once I properly got into it I was once again immersed in Talia and Bran's incredibly addictive story. I'm excited to see what the third book, Inside Out, has to offer, and I just hope everything works out for my new favourite NA couple. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
