Review: Dirty Bertie - Jackpot! by Alan MacDonald and David Roberts
Publisher: Stripes Publishing
Released: May 4th, 2015
Calling all Dirty Bertie fans! Dirty Bertie - the boy with nose-pickingly disgusting habits - is back for another helping of comic chaos! With ever-increasing madcap schemes and crazy capers, Bertie continues to delight his legions of fans who revel in his revolting ways. Join Bertie in Jackpot!, his 25th adventure, as he wins the lottery (or thinks he does), cooks up a storm in the kitchen and finds himself face-to-face with a demon dolly!
Dirty Bertie is back in Jackpot!, which just so happens to be his twenty-fifth published book. It's just as fun as the others I've read, though I think this one has to be my favourite so far. Bertie is a brilliant character, so mischievous and naughty, and he's a pleasure to read about. This book even made me laugh out loud, which is always good!
Jackpot! includes three new stories: 'Jackpot!', 'Crumbs!", and 'Demon Dolly!'. Bertie encounters winning the lottery (hmm!), a baking disaster and an apparent haunting by his sister's doll. Each story is entertaining and memorable, which I think is unusual given their short length. My personal favourite is 'Demon Dolly!', which is spookily excellent!
I always enjoy the Dirty Bertie books and Jackpot! is no exception. Younger readers will find lots to identify with here, not to mention a character who really keeps you on your toes. You just never know what little Bertie is going to do next! I'm already looking forward to the twenty-sixth book in the series, and I hope it's as fun as this one!
